What is Dramatherapy?
Dramatherapy is a creative, relationship‑centred form of psychotherapy that invites you to explore your inner world in ways that feel natural, playful, and deeply human. It’s based on something we all instinctively know: sometimes talking is helpful, and sometimes we need a different doorway in.
Dramatherapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and work under the code of conduct set out by the British Association of Dramatherapists.

You don’t need to enjoy drama or have any experience with it. There’s no performing, no pressure, and absolutely no expectation to “be creative” on demand. Think of it more like having a safe, spacious room where you can explore what’s going on inside you; with conversation, with objects, with movement, with story, or simply with stillness. Whatever feels right for you in the moment.
People come to Dramatherapy for all sorts of reasons: to make sense of difficult experiences, to reconnect with parts of themselves that feel hidden, to find new ways of expressing what’s hard to put into words, or simply to have a gentle, grounded space each week that’s just for them.
At its heart, Dramatherapy is about relationship—between you and your therapist, between you and your emotions, and between the stories you’ve lived and the ones you’re ready to grow into. It’s a warm, creative, and compassionate way of working that meets you exactly where you are and moves at your pace.
My particular avenue of Dramatherapy training includes Movement therapy, which can help release tension, offer grounding and bring insights that arrive through the body rather than thought. It’s an invitation to notice how your body wants to move, or be still, and what becomes possible when you give it space.

Therapy at Bristol Dramatherapy
I hold a deep belief that therapy is, at its core, two humans meeting in a shared space. I hold one-to-one Drama and Movement therapy sessions in my individual therapy room at The Bromley Therapy & Wellbeing space. Online meetings are also available.
Sessions usually last 50mins-1hr; after arriving and getting comfortable with a hot beverage, clients and I check in on how they are, and how they feel things have been since their last session.
We then decide what will be our focus for that session based on your goals and what you wish to focus on, before exploring, processing, and reflecting at your pace, using methods that you are comfortable with. We then reflect on insights we may have had, before ensuring you are settled and ready to continue your day.
When you begin therapy with me, we move at a pace that feels steady, respectful, and genuinely collaborative. I don’t assume or rush; instead, I take time to understand who you are, what matters to you, and what you’re hoping for. Our work is shaped by your needs, your rhythms, and your capacity in each moment.
