Therapeutic Groups at Bristol Dramatherapy

The Art of Upspiralling

Held most: Mondays at 7pm, Tuesdays at 7pm, Wednesdays at 5.30pm

£18pp – 90mins – 6-9 people per session

These are warm, creative, therapeutic groups that explore how creativity can help us process, ground and explore our feelings and thoughts in day to day life.

They aim to give a place for people to go that’s easily accessible, that they can ‘nip into’ to embrace emotional wellbeing in a way that feels light and easy… a ‘put the kettle on’ approach to mental health.

I blend mental health education, light, guided therapeutic methods with drama, art, imagery, creativity, music, and cups of tea and coffee. Aimed to be a ‘locker-room-of-life’, where we check in and listen to our thoughts and feelings to better understand ourselves and what we need. I aim to help people build resilience, skills and knowledge that aid in maintaining and improving mental health and wellbeing in general. With like-minded individuals, we hold space to share, connect, create and explore what it is to be simply human!

Who are they for?

Particularly aimed towards those with anxiety, stress, or those who feel they often try to please those around them without finding time for themselves;

I have aimed to create spaces to help support people in a way that feels lighter than therapy. Although they are not intended as a replacement to individual or group creative therapy, they are intended to be an emotional support system you can use when you need it. These groups are open to adults who are not in crisis, but may struggle with certain thoughts and feelings and want to make space to understand them more.

My hope is by creating more intentional, accessible spaces for people to go to just be human, that are designed to bring creativity and joy into mental health care, we can stop more people from falling in the water, metaphorically.

How to Join

These spaces are available by initially getting in touch and booking a consultation to check if the group is appropriate and safe for you, and to discuss how frequently you would like to attend & if the space is available. Groups are held most weeks, with spaces available to book online once a referral has been completed and group ‘membership’ has been agreed. These meetings also allow me to tailor sessions according to the members each week.

There is the option to book additional, occasional one-to-one member meets with me throughout your journey, if we both feel they would benefit you. These could be used to discuss your engagement and goals, if you need additional clarity on something explored in group, or want to find out about other services that could benefit you in the local area.

The groups are ongoing, weekly spaces for members to create, learn new skills, and connect with one another in a light, warm, laid back environment.

Thank you for your response. ✨

Generally, adults who not experiencing a mental health crisis are welcome to join providing space is available, whether or not they support their mental health using other services.

If during our initial meeting we feel the groups aren’t what you’re looking for, or we feel they would not be a benefit to you or your needs, I may be able to signpost you to other or additional local services I may have knowledge of that would benefit your needs.

If we both agree the chosen group is a good fit for you, we can then discuss how often you’d like to attend (some groups can be booked weekly, two weekly, monthly or flexibly depending on your needs, others require block-booking as a course). We will also discuss your goals and what you’d like to gain from attending (as the sessions are created with the members in mind).

You are welcome to attend for as long as:

  • we still agree the group, or groups, you attend fit your needs.
  • you have attended at least one service in the last 3 months.
  • you continue to work safely and respectfully in the group.
